This is a very family-friendly community with a low crime rate, a place where you can get to know your neighbours. With low traffic density it's also safer and easier for pedestrians, cyclists and joggers.

Our youth are a driving force behind this, with our schools and community actively encouraging them to take pride in themselves, their schools and their community.
Young people are encouraged to participate and extend themselves in organizations such as Scouts, Girl Guides, St John Ambulance, Air Training Corps and many sports and recreational clubs which all have a strong focus on personal and community safety.
When required, higher level help is always at hand. Police, St John, ambulance attendants, fire and other emergency and rescue services have attended bases in Ashburton. New recruits and volunteers are welcomed.
