Ashburton District has a considerable history of producing sporting talent and a deeply ingrained sporting culture. It has grown into a training ground for many international sports stars.
Whatever your interest, high quality, modern sports and recreational activities are available for every age group. Along with the popular rugby, soccer, netball, hockey, tennis, cricket, golf, basketball and squash (to name just a few), water sports of all kinds are here too.
Ashburton also boasts an excellent international-standard hockey turf, netball courts and stunning floodlit all weather Plexipave tennis centre with 16 competition-level courts. Field sports such as softball, badminton, athletics, volleyball, bowls, bike racing, motocross, martial arts and equestrian clubs are also catered for too.
Our five spacious and uncrowded golf courses and driving ranges present unique terrain and challenges to test any golfer. Even the traditional Scottish pastime of curling is played here (it's actually a lot of fun!).
For young people a specially designed skatepark in the Ashburton town centre echoes to the thrills and tricks of skateboarders, while the community pool complex caters for everyone from preschool and learn to swim to a competitive squad.
So whatever your sport or pursuit, there is a club for you. While the competition may be serious, the warm, friendly community spirit is always carried into the club house!
